GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) -In Garrard County, an accused burglar got more than he bargained for when he was shot by the homeowner.
Police say they received a call just after 3 a.m. Wednesday about a burglary in progress at the Old US 27 BBQ building on Old Lexington Road. The property owner lives on site, according to police.
Officers found Joseph Bickett running from the scene and were able to arrest him after a short foot chase. Police also found Dale Parker while he was trying to leave the home. Officers say the two men are related.
Police say Parker and Bickett illegally entered the home and climbed onto the roof and forcibly opened a kitchen window.
The home owner reported several men inside his home and went to his bedroom.
Officers say the homeowner was armed and fired one shot at Parker when he entered, hitting him in the upper shoulder. The homeowner said Parker was armed with a metal pipe and scissors.
Garrard EMS took Parker to UK hospital for treatment of the gun shot wound.
Parker was charged with Burglary First Degree, Criminal Trespass, Terroristic threatening and Menacing. Bickett was charged with Burglary Second Degree and Criminal trespass.
Both were booked in the Lincoln County Jail.
