WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – A group of farmers and Kentucky leaders gathered to celebrate the bluegrass state’s success farming hemp.
Kenneth Anderson used to primarily grow tobacco, but as the industry declined he made a switch to hemp.
He started growing hemp in 2014 and says his farm is about 70% hemp.
Anderson says part of his success is due to Senator Mitch McConnell, who took big steps to legalize the crops and make Kentucky a leader in the industry.
“It’s a growing industry and Kentucky’s been on the forefront since the beginning and without the leadership of our state and federal governments, we would not be where we’re at now,” said Kenneth Anderson.
Senator McConnel says 99 out of 120 counties in Kentucky are growing hemp.
