Former mayor of Hazard dies

Two-term Hazard Mayor Bill Morton died 4-18-19 at the age of 95

HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Former Hazard mayor Bill Morton died Thursday morning at the age of 95.

His wife, Betty, passed away earlier this year.

Morton served two-terms as mayor from 1970-to-1977.

He was a World War II and Korean War veteran.  He ran a successful lumber business, was active his entire adult life in the Hazard Rotary Club and often sang at church and at community events.

Maggard Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Visitation is scheduled this Saturday, April 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Maggard’s Mountain View Chapel with the memorial service to immediately follow.
