KSP: Man crashes into embankment after falling asleep at the wheel

Deputies say 21-year-old Ashley Key was driving west on Richpond Rockfield Road when she dropped off the shoulder of the road, causing her to overcorrect and leave the left side of the road. Key struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire,

WALLINS, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a man fell asleep at the wheel, went off the road and hit an embankment in Harlan County.

Investigators say Mark Stephens, of Wallins, was airlifted from the crash scene on U.S. 119 in Harlan County to a hospital in Tennessee.

State Police say Stephens was not wearing a seat belt.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to KSP.
