Kentucky hits lowest annual unemployment rate since 2000

Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS) released their unemployment figures between February 2018 and February 2019.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky saw the lowest annual unemployment rate since 2000, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

KYSTATS reports the state’s annual unemployment rate dropped from 4.9 percent in 2017 to 4.3 percent in 2018. That’s the lowest annual jobless rate for the state since 2000 when the rate was 4.2 percent and well above the U.S. annual unemployment rate of 3.9 percent in 2018.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the number of Kentuckians employed for 2018 was 1,972,312 – up 19,280 from 2017.

Kentucky’s unemployment rate for 2018 was higher than 38 states and lower than nine states.
