LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – For 24 hours, there was no sleeping and no sitting for University Kentucky students participating in the Dance Blue marathon.
In order to dance, every student had to fund raise at least $395.
This year, nearly a thousand students raised over one million dollars.
All of the money is donated to a fund that supports kids and families at UK’s Children Hospital Hematology and Oncology clinic.
For participant, Alex Brefeld, this fund raiser means a lot because two years ago he was getting treatment for lymphoma at the hospital.
“Through doing things like this we make it something much more manageable for these kids and an experience they can go through and find meaning in their life,” said Alex Brefeld.
Since the organization’s launch in 2006, Dance Blue has raised more than fifteen million dollars.
