LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man accused of a drive-by shooting that left a 12-year-old girl paralyzed in 2017 will stand trial this morning.
Police say 24-year-old Carlos Jenkins was arrested in 2017 for the drive-by shooting that injured and paralyzed 12-year-old Amya Catching.
Investigators say she was shot during a sleepover celebrating her 12th birthday at a home near Carneal Road.
According to Lexington Police, the home was hit by more than 30 bullets.
They say several adults and children were inside the home when the shooting happened.
Investigators say Catching was paralyzed from the chest down from her injuries.
Last November, BIA Cares built and designed a new home for Catching’s needs with the help of community donations.
Jenkins faces seven charges of wanton endangerment, and an assault charge.
His trial is scheduled to start at 8:30 this morning.
