Christmas Origins Seminar

Background: In 2010, I was in the last three years of a twenty-two year ministry in Madison, Georgia, when I heard that the scientific community was elevating Darwin’s theory of evolution to the status of scientific law. I did not believe that Darwin and the Bible could both be right, so I decided to do an in-depth study of what the scientific community had to support their decision. That study exposed me to many things I never knew before. The more I learned, especially about the foundational issues related to the Big Bang theory and to the theory of evolution, the more convinced I became that, beyond a reasonable doubt, the “natural causes” view of origins is fatally flawed and that the Genesis account of creation is the most reasonable explanation of where we came from and how we got here. Recently I have seen surveys that indicate young Americans are turning away from the Bible at a rate that threatens the future of the church in America. I believe this situation makes sharing what I have learned about origins more critical than I had realized prior to seeing the survey results.

Event: In 1925, the ACLU orchestrated a mock trial that has become known as the “Scopes Monkey Trial.” That “trial” was designed to denigrate the Genesis account of creation and to support Darwin’s theory of evolution. The “trial” led to creation being banned from America’s public classrooms. The Christmas seminar on origins in Somerset is designed to take the first step in reversing the influence of the Scopes Monkey Trial. The seminar will begin on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. There will be two 50 minute sessions Friday evening followed by a 30 minute question and answer session starting at 9:00. Saturday will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will have two sessions in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon followed by an additional 30 minute question and answer period. The six sessions will focus on: 1) Truth and why truth is so important to all of us, 2) the origin of matter, 3) the origin of the four essential forces of the universe, 4) the origin of life, 5) the age issue for the Bible and for the Big Bang theory, and 6) additional origins issues as time allows. Breaking from tradition, this seminar will attack tenets of the “natural causes” view of origins much more than it will focus on defending the Genesis account, employing Sherlock Holmes’ approach to identifying truth in The Sign of the Four: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
