LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – This was delivery day for the ABC 36, Save-A-Lot food drive for the Lexington Rescue Mission.
Approximately 1,000 bags of non-perishable food, that were purchased by customers in Lexington Save-A-Lot stores, were delivered to the Lexington Rescue Mission to help feed the hungry this holiday season.
Pre-packaged food donation bags are available for $5 near the checkout counters at all Lexington Save-A-Lot stores. The contents in the bags will feed a family of four.
Because of the early cold weather, the Lexington Rescue Mission says the need is great.
“It’s sad that there are that many people in our community who struggle to make ends meet, who struggle to put food on the table, but it is a blessing because so many people contributed to make sure nobody would go hungry,” said Laura Carr, Lexington Rescue Mission Development Director.
The ABC 36, Save-A-Lot food drive doesn’t end with Thanksgiving. Donations are needed to help the Lexington Rescue Mission through Christmas and beyond.
People can purchase non-perishable food in any of the four Save-A-Lot stores in Lexington and place them in the donation box near the store entrance or purchase a $5 pre-packaged food donation bag located near the checkout counters. Put the bag with other items being purchased and place it in the donation box near the exit as you leave the store.
