FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A state senator from Lexington pre-filed a bill for upcoming legislative session in Frankfort that would raise the minimum wage in Kentucky.
Democrat Reggie Thomas’ bill calls for staggered wage increases over the next seven years, bringing the minimum wage up to $15 an hour by July 1, 2026.
Senator Thomas noted that Arkansas, another rural state, just had a statewide enactment of a $12 minimum wage.
He says that if Arkansas can raise its minimum wage, it is time for Kentucky to raise its minimum wage. “We need to make sure that everyone has a livable wage,” he said.
