MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Five staff members at the high-security federal prison in McCreary County were injured Wednesday afternoon in an attack by inmates, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
A group of inmates attacked the staff members just before 1:00 p.m. when the staffers responded to a disruption, according to prison officials.
The injured staff members were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Several inmates were treated for minor injuries at the prison, according to officials.
Following the attack, all inmates were returned to their cells and the prison was put on lockdown, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The FBI was notified of the incident and the Federal Bureau of Prisons has launched an internal investigation.
