ESSIE, Ky. (WTVQ)- The search for an accused killer in Leslie County led to the public school system to cancel classes Friday in the county.
Investigators say a call was made to police Thursday saying a woman had been found unresponsive in a home on Weeping Cherry Lane. When troopers arrived, they say the woman had suffered a gunshot wound.
Through investigation, troopers determined that Dustin Stidham and Paige Murphy were involved in a dispute when Stidham shot Murphy. They say Stidham left the scene in a 2002 Ford Taurus.
The Leslie County deputy coroner pronounced 28-year-old Paige Murphy dead at the scene.
State Police say an autopsy will be performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.
Investigators say they spent most of the day trying to locate Stidham. They say the Taurus he was driving was found abandoned on a game reserve at the head of Garrison Hollow.
Stidham is described as 32 years old, 5’9″, 150 pounds, brown hair, blue eyes, last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and jeans.
State Police say he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if seen.
Anyone with information concerning the location of Dustin Stidham is urged to contact KSP Post 13 at 606-435-6069.
