Heavy police presence after suspicious package found at WKYT

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- There was heavy police presence at WKYT after a suspicious package was found near the back side of the building Thursday evening.

WKYT News Director Robert Thomas says on Twitter that the package was found around 5:30 p.m. after a viewer who didn’t have an appointment demanded to talk to a reporter and was seen peeking in the station’s windows.

Because there was no information on the package, such as a return address and wasn’t delivered by an official mail carrier, police say the package was ruled suspicious.

A bomb robot was at the scene to investigate.

Fortunately, the package was determined to be harmless.

The package was addressed to ABC News Director.

In the package, was a t -shirt that says “Unite to Fight Childhood Cancer.”
