UPDATE: Johnson Co. fatal crash victim identified

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Johnson County coroner has identified an elderly woman killed in a collision with a Pike County deputy sheriff’s cruiser Tuesday.

The coroner says 90-year old Betty Jewel Moore, of Van Lear, was making a U-turn on U.S. 23 in Paintsville, when she collided head-on with the deputy’s cruiser.

State Police say Moore wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

There were two sheriff’s deputies and an inmate in the cruiser.


JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) -A Pike County Sheriff’s office vehicle was involved in a fatal collision on Tuesday, according to police.

They say the accident happened on US 23.

Troopers tell us that a Pike County Sheriff’s office vehicle and a passenger car was involved in the crash.

According to police, inside the sheriffs vehicle was a man and woman deputy, there was also a female being transported to another facility in the back seat.

The second vehicle had two or three people inside, one of the people in this vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.

This crash remains under investigation.
