LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Watch Rep. Andy Barr’s acceptance speech here.
BULLETIN (AP) – Andy Barr, GOP, elected U.S. House, District 6
Supporters of Andy Barr gathered in Lexington tonight to watch the results come in at his official election night party.
People watched the results inside a ballroom at the griffin gate Marriott. This is Barr’s fourth Congressional campaign but by far his hardest. Barr was in a dead heat with his opponent Democratic candidate Amy McGrath going into today’s election.
Throughout his campaign, Barr has aligned himself closely with President Trump, focusing on the economy. He’s also separated himself from McGrath by touting his conservative values, which is something his supporters say is one of their biggest priorities.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- As the doors opened at the Marriott in Lexington, Andy Barr supporters are streamed in.
Barr will be watching the results come in here with fellow members of the Republican Party of Kentucky. Now this is by far the closest race Barr has had in his years in Congress as he is in a dead heat with his opponent Democrat Amy McGrath.
Barr’s house seat is one of only a few toss-up seats this election, which could determine which party controls the House of Representatives. So it is no surprise Barr has had several big names come to the sixth district to help him campaign.
The biggest of which was president trump himself who visited last month, speaking with Barr at Eastern Kentucky University.
Barr has aligned himself closely with the President on a variety of issues from immigration, to healthcare, and energy.
Trump won this district handedly in 2016 and Barr is hoping the President’s endorsement will help him cross the finish line in first.
One supporter commented, “Normally I wouldn’t make the trip but here I have two reasons. One was I love the state of Kentucky and the other was that Andy Barr is a great Congressman.” In addition to President Trump, Barr also had visits from Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and President Trump’s son, Trump Jr.
Now that the polls have just closed it is time to finally see if all that campaigning and star power worked on voters here in the sixth district.
