McGrath gave her concession speech here to a group of people who kept cheering for her and thanking her throughout it. In her speech McGrath said she’s so proud of the campaign she ran. She mentioned how she quote “refused to get in the mud” by running negative ads. She also said more than ever we must bridge what seems like an increasing partisan divide and demand a more civil tone in politics.

McGrath told her supporters not to let the loss slow them down, that everyone needs to keep fighting for a better future. She said doesn’t know what’s ahead for her, but she says she’ll remain an active voice in Kentucky.

BULLETIN (AP) – Andy Barr, GOP, elected U.S. House, District 6

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- Even though it’s a tight race, Amy McGrath supporters say they’re still optimistic about their candidates’ chances. Many people feel this race is more a referendum on Donald Trump’s presidency than it is about Andy Barr or McGrath.

McGrath’s supporters here say if she wins it’ll send a message about what people want for the country’s future.

Meanwhile, McGrath is watching the returns with family. We expect to see her here after the race is called.

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- People are expecting it to be a long, exciting night at Amy McGrath’s watch party at the EKU Center for the Arts in Richmond.

Supporters here are fiercely proud of Amy McGrath and the work they’ve done to get her elected. She launched her campaign soon after retiring from the Marine Corps and moving to Scott County, about an hour away from where she grew up in northern Kentucky.

Her first ad about her fight to become a Marine Fighter Pilot went viral and helped her win the primary. Many think her race against Andy Barr is a referendum on Donald Trump’s Presidency.

The President won the district in 2016 with big percentages of the vote. Many people have pointed to attack ads from Andy Barr as a sign Republicans are nervous about the race. Amy McGrath has said she wants to run a positive campaign. In her ads we’ve seen just occasional jabs at Barr.

“Andy Barr says I’m against middle class tax cuts. Wrong. Just his tax cuts for those at the top. He says I’m for open borders. That’s ridiculous and he keeps saying Nancy Pelosi, she didn’t even want me to run.” says McGrath.
