LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Close to 300 runners took part in Sunday’s third annual Veterans VA 5K at the VA on Leestown Road in Lexington.
A Blackhawk helicopter from the Kentucky National Guard landed on the grounds prior to the start of the race.
Rolling Thunder Kentucky lead runners on the corners. The runners ranged in age from 6 to 86 years old.
Proceeds from the race went to the VA and the Lexington Fisher House building fund.
A Fisher House is built on VA property and is a home where veterans’ family members stay for free while their loved one is in the VA and Lexington.
ABC36’s own Tom Kenny is the head of a non-profit foundation leading the fundraising campaign to build the Lexington Fisher House. He also emceed Sunday’s event.
