Merchants cash in on UK Football success

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – UK football is the talk of the town for Solid Blue fans at the KSBar and Grill.

“I remember back when I was in college, we played LSU and we won and we beat them in double overtime. I was there at that game and I can’t wait to be there this weekend,” said Zach Doyle.

UK Athletics is feeling the hype. ESPN’s SEC Nation is coming to town. UK Athletics says to expect a full house at Kroger Field.

“We sold out almost a month ago. We’ve kind of known what’s going on for a while now. We know it’s going to be a packed house. It’s just going to be a lot of fun,” said Guy Ramsey with UK Athletics.

For Mark Montgomery and his staff at AllSports, they’re preparing for a massive increase in foot traffic. He says with the football team still very competitive into the cold weather months, heavy rain jackets and hoodies have been selling like crazy.

“A lot more people going to the games, a lot more people wanting to sport new apparel every time they go to the games, so that brings them in here and gets them shopping,” said Montgomery.

Montgomery says his sales are up anywhere between 20 and 30 percent. Also, AllSports plans to have additional staff working this weekend.
