Goodfellas Pizzeria retrains staff after Barstool Sports review

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Goodfellas Pizzeria retrained its staff after a bad review from a sports blogger sparked a wave of online criticism earlier this month.

After what has been an up and down past month to say the least the employees at Goodfellas say they are ready to refocus on serving quality pizza.

Goodfellas Pizzeria has been a staple in Lexington for the past 13 years but this week the company got back to basics.

“We have one product here and we want to do it well,” said Alex Coats, owner of Goodfellas Pizzeria.

Goodfellas retrained every employee at all six of it’s locations.

“We wanted to make sure there was a unison among all stores across every city that we’re in on how we make pizza and how we serve pizza,” said Coats.

Coats says this retraining was prompted by the scathing review Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy posted on twitter earlier this month.

In the wake of that video, Coats says Goodfellas was flooded with bad reviews.

“People were calling the shops threatening the employees and we really were just like what’s going here?” said Coats.

Coats says the local community stood by his pizzeria the whole time and now a few weeks later he’s excited to get back to what Goodfellas was built on.

“Creating great pizza and serving our guests and keeping good vibes and good smiles in our place and just have fun with what we do,” said Coats.

It looks like Goodfellas has already regained one fan, Portnoy posted on Twitter again Tuesday saying he’s “rooting hard” for Goodfellas.
