FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 16 year-old Civil Air Patrol cadet has joined an exclusive club. He’s received an award only 20 cadets in Kentucky have earned since 1964.
Ryan Hebert received the Spaatz award at Governor Matt Bevin’s office.
“He’s one of the first people I looked up to in the program,” said fellow cadet Chloe Birt.
Birt’s father, Nicholas Birt, is also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He says Ryan and his family helped convince them to join.
Hebert also takes dual enrollment classes, tutors at his local community college and wants to attend the Air Force Academy.
“It’s unique to any other environment. I’ve developed here and learned experiences I never knew I needed to learn. The life lessons just keep on coming,” Hebert says about his time in the Civil Air Patrol.
