Jury reaches verdicts in the Trinity Gay murder trial

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A jury returns verdicts against four men accused in the death of Trinity Gay.

The 15-year-old daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay was shot and killed after police say two groups started exchanging gunfire in the parking lot of the Cookout restaurant on South Broadway in Lexington in 2016.

Chazerae Taylor was charged with wanton murder, accused of firing the shot that took Gay’s life.

The other three men, Lamonte Williams, D’Markeo Taylor and D’Vonta Middlebrooks, were all charged with wanton endangerment.

On Monday, a jury found Chazera Taylor guilty of murder and five counts of wanton endangerment. Williams was found guilty of five counts of wanton endangerment. D’Markeo Taylor and Middlebrooks were both was found guilty of one count of wanton endangerment.

Monday’s verdict came five days after the start of the high-profile murder trial.

The sentencing phase of the trial will start Tuesday at 9 a.m.
