ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) –Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a motorcycle Sunday night near Reeves Lane in Carter County.
KSP says around 5:30 Sunday night, 61-year-old Marsha Scott was driving a 2006 Pontiac Montana mini-van and was turning left onto US Highway 60 from Reeve’s Lane when she collided with 43-year-old Terry Johnson driving a motorcycle and 43-year-old Tonya Johnson, the passenger on the motorcycle.
Troopers say that evidence on scene indicated Mr. Johnson attempted to avoid the collision through braking, before laying the bike over on its left side, but was ultimately unable to dodge the mini-van. The motorcycle hit the mini-van close to its front left fender.
The Carter County coroner pronounced Tonya Johnson dead at the scene. Terry Johnson was taken to Saint Claire Medical Center for treatment, and was later air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital.
KSP says both were wearing helmets. Neither occupant of the Pontiac was injured.
At the time no criminal charges have been filed as a result of the crash, and alcohol is not a suspected contributor.
