LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is confirming another hepatitis A case in the city.
The health department reports a patient at the Hope Center’s Privett Recovery Center tested positive for hepatitis A last week.
Health officials say the center responded quickly and all patients in the program received vaccinations.
This is the 17th confirmed hepatitis A case in Fayette County linked to an outbreak that started in November.
While many of the cases involve high-risk populations, the health department is encouraging everyone to get the hepatitis A vaccination, as the number of cases in the region and throughout the state continues to climb.
The health department says there are more than 1,780 confirmed cases of hepatitis A across Kentucky. There have been 14 deaths associated with the outbreak, and 56 percent of the cases involved hospitalization.
