Farm remembers woman killed in Bourbon County floodwaters

PARIS, Ky. (WTVQ) – As Erik Johnson performs the daily duties in the stables of the Silver Springs Stud farm, he remembers the phone call telling him a car was trapped in floodwaters just down the street on Brentsville Road in Paris.

“We were hoping something could be done. We were grasping at straws that something might be okay, but there really wasn’t much we could do,” said Johnson.

Crews found Holli Pennington inside that car after they pulled it from the floodwaters. It was already too late.

“It’s hit the team very hard. It was a tough day,” said Johnson.

The Colorado native was in the Bluegrass for the Kentucky Equine Management Internship. The farm was excited to bring the joyful 23 year-old on full time. Johnson says Pennington’s had a great passion for horses.

Johnson adds the Kentucky Equine Management Internship is looking into setting up a scholarship in Pennington’s name. He tells ABC 36 it will post that information on its website and Facebook page when the information is available.
