BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Boone County Sheriff says a couple arrested for child abuse hurt a little boy so badly they didn’t think he was still alive the next day.

Deputies say 31-year-old Karen Spurlock and her three-year-old son were living with 34-year-old Shane Sasher.

Staff members at St. Elizabeth Hospital reported the couple brought the little boy in with injuries that seemed to come from abuse such as a cut under an eye that needed stitches.

Investigators found the couple gave the boy medicine after hitting him twice.

Deputies say Spurlock and Sasher told them when they woke him up the next day they thought he was dead.
