UK football coach, team to serve as honorary pallbearers for child hit by alleged drunk driver


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 4-year-old who died after being hit by a car over the weekend will be laid to rest Monday.

Marco Shemwell was struck by an alleged drunk driver on Cooper Drive near Kroger Field during a UK football game on Saturday.

He died Monday at the University of Kentucky hospital.

According to Shemwell’s obituary, University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops, the UK football team and coaching staff will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The obituary says Shemwell “loved Batman and Kentucky Football, always cheering for the blue team.”

Members of the UK Police Department, UK Health Care and PICU team and first responders “who helped in the families’ time of need” will also serve as honorary pallbearers, according to the obituary.

Visitation for Shemwell will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Christian Church in Winchester.

The funeral will be held at noon Monday, also at the same location.
