UPDATE: Family of wounded Scott County deputy expresses gratitude for support


GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – The family of a Scott County sheriff’s deputy shot on Tuesday is saying ‘thank you’ for the support during his recovery.

“As the family of Deputy Jaime Morales we would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support our family has received from friends, strangers and Jaime’s law enforcement family,” the family said in a statement released by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. “Your thoughts, prayers and offers of help are deeply appreciated. This support is so helpful for all of us as Jaime continues his journey toward recovery. Thank you, Larry, Ruthie and Lawrence.”

Morales was helping federal agents find a fugitive from Florida, who was located at a rest stop on Interstate 75 near exit 127 in Scott County around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Gunfire was exchanged, according to state police, and Morales was shot.

The fugitive, 57-year-old Edward Reynolds, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital.

According to Kentucky State Police, Morales underwent two surgeries and was expected to be taken off a ventilator Thursday.
