GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An officer was headbutted and another almost bitten by a suspect they were trying to take into custody, according to the Garrard County Police Department.
According to the department, on September 8, officers were called to the Town Square area in Lancaster after it was reported a man was seen looking into vehicles.
Garrard County Police Officer Troy Willard and Lancaster Officer Roy Gambrel found the man near a church and say he was acting nervous, sweating profusely and had slurred speech.
They say the man, Robert Aldridge, admitted he was trying to steal from vehicles.
When the officers told Aldridge he was being placed under arrest, they say he attempted to run off but was caught and handcuffed.
While being walked to the police cruiser, they say Aldridge pulled away and began to run and, when Officer Gambrel grabbed him, Aldridge attempted to headbutt him.
They say while on the ground, Aldridge attempted to bite the officer.
Another officer showed up to help and, while he was attempting to put leg shackles on Aldridge, they say he headbutted the officer and tried to run again.
The officers were able to shackle Aldridge and take him to the hospital for treatment and then to jail.
He is charged with theft by unlawful taking, public intoxication controlled substances, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and escape.
