Frankfort, Ky. (WTVQ): Experience a Kentucky Historical Society exhibit and discover Kentucky’s story from everyday life to the workings of the Commonwealth’s highest political office – from how we furnished our homes to challenges that made us question our beliefs and forced us to make difficult decisions.
Kentuckians “have established their place in history decade by decade, and incident by incident, always with the winds of change blowing strongly in their faces,” said Kentucky historian Dr. Thomas D. Clark. The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) was formed in 1836 by prominent Kentuckians intent on preserving the history of the Commonwealth.
The Kentucky Historical Society is becoming the recognized leader in helping people understand, cherish and share Kentucky’s stories. Additionally, mission is to educate the public through Kentucky’s history in order to confront the challenges of the future.
They are a membership organization with members from Kentucky and around the world. KHS endorses the History Relevance statement and is a part of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet with full accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and has become a Smithsonian affiliate.
