LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Two Rite Aid stores in central Kentucky will be permanently closed, according to the chain’s new owner, Walgreens.
The Rite Aid at 100 Malabu Drive in Lexington and at 310 Glades Road in Berea will close.
Walgreens says it’s closing those two locations because they are near existing Walgreens stores.
The Malabu Drive pharmacy will close August 6, 2018. The prescription files will be moved to the existing Walgreens at 2290 Nicholasville Road, which is point-two miles away. The store itself will close two weeks after the pharmacy closes.
The Glades Road pharmacy in Berea will close August 16 and those prescription files will be moved to a Walgreens at 220 Richmond Road, a tenth of a mile away. The store itself will close two weeks after the pharmacy closes.
The company says a majority of the affected employees will be placed in other stores.
Walgreens recently acquired all the Rite Aid stores in Kentucky and nearly 2,000 total across the country.
