MENIFEE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Crews in the Red River Gorge spent another day searching for a missing camper, but he’s nowhere to be found.
The family of Leslie Reynolds, 29, talked to search and rescue Thursday. They gave crews details into what Reynolds was doing before he disappeared. Family told crews he was in good spirits, and even posted a picture of his campsite on Facebook.
Search and rescue says Reynolds had gone camping, by himself, at one of his favorite places, Frog’s Head Rock in the Red River Gorge.
Back in 2012, Reynolds suffered a brain injury that search and rescue says he’s on medication for, but he forgot to take that medication camping with him. When he isn’t on it, crews say he isn’t in his right mind.
His mom was having the medication taken to him, and Reynolds was supposed to come to his car to get it.
Around 9:30 Tuesday night, search and rescue says Reynolds texted his mom, saying he was lost. Since then, no one has been able to get in touch with him.
On Wednesday, crews found Reynolds’ small campsite. On Thursday, they left with no leads.
Search and rescue did find a footprint they initially thought could belong to Reynolds, but after further investigation realized it most likely belongs to a team member who had been searching in that area Wednesday.
Search crews will be back out at 8 Friday morning with help from search dogs.
Anyone who may know where Reynolds is, is asked to contact Powell County Search and Rescue.
If you plan on hiking in the gorge, you’re asked to avoid the area around Bison Way Trail. That’s the one leading to Frog’s Head Rock and the Indian Staircase.
