Traffic backed up after deadly crash in Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ)- Kentucky State Police responded to a deadly crash involving two vehicles on I-75 in Williamsburg Monday.

State police say that upon arrival and through investigation, officers found 66-year-old John Romine of Carmel, Indiana driving a 2007 BMW motorcycle traveling south on I-75 when he collided into the back of a 2018 Volvo tractor trailer being driven by 56-year-old Marty T. Byrnes of Elizabethtown.

The Whitley County Coroner pronounced Romine dead on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Byrnes, the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash. Romine was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

KSP says traffic was routed down US 25 at exit 15 southbound for nearly two hours while crews worked to clear debris from the roadway and while officers investigated the crash.
