RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) -The back-to-school bash put on by the Richmond Teen Center every year is almost here, but the center still needs donations so it can help as many kids as possible.
Helping kids is Georgia Parks’ biggest joy.
“I love being able to do a lot of events for them, take them on trips, have speakers come in and talk to them, teach them manners, teach them to clean,” said Parks. “I feel really good by being able to help somebody else’s kid, but which is mine too.”
But, she can’t do it alone.
“Ma always said ‘It takes a village to raise a child,'” said Parks.
That’s why she is calling on the community. She needs donation for the Richmond Teen Center’s back-to-school bash. Not only does the bash celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year, but it serves as an opportunity for the center to give school supplies to kids who need them.
It’s stuff like paper towels, tissues, hand sanitizers, pencils, notebooks and other basic school supplies that the center needs.
Last year, the center gave away around 500 backpacks full of supplies. This year, its goal is 600 backpacks.
August 8 is the last day to donate. On that day, Parks and other volunteers will spend their day loading up the backpacks.
To get involved, or to donate items, call Parks at 859-625-0010, or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
