LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says that demolition operations have started for the existing Kennedy Mill Bridge over Herrington Lake. A replacement bridge is currently being built adjacent to the original structure. The anticipated completion date for the new bridge is November 2019.
KYTC says demolition will be starting Thursday July 12th through Friday July 27th, 2a.m. until 10p.m.
KYTC says demolition will generally be Monday through Saturday, but some demolition work may occur on Sunday. The bridge is currently being demolished at mile point 18.849, the Mercer-Garrard County line.
Drivers should use US 27 and KY 34 to KY 33 as an alternate route.
Due to safety precautions — no pedestrians are allowed on the bridge.
Attempting to cross the bridge could easily result in life risking consequences.
All work is subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
