LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -Woman charged after going down the wrong way on the interstate in Lexington on Tuesday, officials say.
State Police say 69-year old Joyce Antonelli, of Centerville, Ohio, hit multiple vehicles in Madison County and got on I-75 where she traveled in the wrong lane.
They say she was speeding and driving erratically. Officers put down spike strips to try and stop her after entering Fayette County.
When she got to the I-75/I-64 split, police say Antonelli crossed the median and was driving into oncoming traffic.
Fearing for her safety and the safety of all the drivers on the interstate, State Police intentionally hit her car to stop her. Investigators say that collision sent the woman’s car into a Lexington Police car. The officer in that car was taken to UK Hospital with minor injuries, according to KSP. In all, two police cars were damaged.
Antonelli was charged with speeding and reckless driving.
