Deputies arrived and found the 2 1/2-year-old boy wearing only a diaper.

They say they could not find the child’s parents or caregivers.

The toddler was taken to the hospital, where it was discovered he had several large bruises on his legs, chest and torso.

Through the course of their investigation, deputies say they learned the child’s grandmother and mother struck him with a belt.

They say they also learned the child was last seen in their home around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The child’s mother, 24-year-old Angelica Mason, of Sturdivant, was charged with criminal abuse and grandmother, 45-year-old Bobbi F. Cross, was charged with wanton endangerment.

Both were booked into the Laurel County Detention Center.

The child was placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
