LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- As we get closer to the primary election, candidates in all races are picking up the pace trying to get their voices heard.
Wednesday morning candidates for Lexington’s mayoral race participated in a forum.
In the crowded race for mayor, the candidates are scrambling to get their names out there before the May 22nd primary.
That’s why on Wednesday morning, six of the seven candidates participated in an interactive forum.
The candidates listened to a presentation on how Lexington ranks nationwide and then took questions from the audience.
But this wasn’t just any audience, this was a room filled with UK students.
“I think it’s unique because of the relationship of the people, the press and public life,” said Buck Ryan with the Citizen Kentucky Project.
UK’s journalism 101 class sponsored the forum, something students say they hope will motivate more young people to get involved in local politics.
“Little baby steps like this I think, just attending the forum is going to like have a big push I think,” said Dixie Brwoning, a student at UK.
A push these candidates are trying to get behind their campaigns.
The top two finishers in the May primary will move on to the November election.
