Lexington restaurant fundraising for Garrard Co. Animal Shelter

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Josie’s in Chevy Chase is donating 20-percent of their sales Monday, to the Garrard County Animal Shelter.

Susan Mirkhan, a manager at Josie’s, says after hearing about the shelter’s kennel conditions the restaurant was more than happy to help. “I think I speak for a lot of people here at Josie’s, we are big animal lovers.”

Garrard County Animal Shelter’s staff says the timing of Josie’s offer, couldn’t have came at a better time.

Memarie Noakes who works at the shelter says, “They reached out to us to help us get our kennels in line, they’re falling apart. We have escapees almost everyday. We come in some mornings and they’re out. It’s not safe for them.”

Staff members are proud the shelter is going on year two of having a no-kill status, but they say with the status comes a higher volume.

The animal shelter is in need of feeding supplies, cleaning supplies, new kennels, shots for their puppies, and much more.

Noakes says they have to be a voice for the animals because if they aren’t, no one else will be.

If you would like to donate to the Garrard County Animal Shelter, you can do so online or in person. They have a drop-off box at their location at 210 Doty Lane in Lancaster.
