LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police found 19-year old Devon Guest shot in the chest Friday night in the 500 block of Michigan Street in Lexington. according to investigators, he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.
Now family and friends are grieving, asking why. A vigil was held Saturday near his family home, where dozens gathered to reminisce on the good memories.
Famous author John Steinbeck once said, “It’s so much darker when a light goes out, than it would have been if it had never shone.”
After speaking with Devon Guest’s family and friends, his bright light still shine’s through the memories they had.
“He was always smiling, always smiling, goofing around. He was never like mad, sad, none of it.”
His friends tell ABC 36 Guest received a message to meet up on Michigan Street on Friday, little did he know on his way over, that would be the last moments of his life. According to police, after a fight Guest was shot in the chest by a 17-year-old male.
Guest later died in surgery, leaving behind his 11-month-old baby boy, the mother of his child, and a whole life ahead of him.
His family said he was a selfless person with a big heart who had no known enemies. It left his loved ones confused and hurt. One grieving friend says none of this would have happened if people would just put the guns down.
“Stop all the senseless killing, and for what? It just doesn’t make sense, we all have to go out of here one day and it shouldn’t be like that.”
After happy memories were shared, balloons with messages of love and peace were released in his memory.
Funeral Services for Devon Guest will be held Saturday April 14th at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.
