Teachers Rally in the Capitol after Pension Bill clears House and Senate

Teachers held signs and shouted in anger after lawmakers voted to pass SB 1.

FRANKFORT, ky. (WTVQ) – The cries of “Shame on you! Shame on you!” could be heard inside the Senate chambers as SB 151 passed.

Hundreds of teachers gathered in the rotunda after hearing that SB 151 could clear the House and Senate Thursday night.

The bill narrowly cleared the House with a vote of 49-46. It passed in the Senate 22-15. Even some Republicans broke with their party to vote against it.

More protests are expected at the Capitol today by teachers and other advocates.
