Investigators say they tried to negotiate with a man who had barricaded himself inside a home with a firearm.  Troopers say the man fired several shots inside and outside the home before opening the front door and firing at officers.

Two State Police cars being used for cover were hit several times by bullets at which time Troopers returned fire, according to KSP.

The Kentucky State Police Special Response (SRT) responded to the scene.  SRT members used robotics and a K-9 to find the man inside the home, who was unresponsive, according to investigators.

The Johnson County Coroner’s Office pronounced 35-year old Steven Dalton, of Oil Springs, dead at the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.
