Police investigating quadruple Johnson Co. murder suicide


PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police have confirmed the identity of the victims in a quadruple murder suicide in Johnson County.

Kentucky State Police say that Joseph Nickell first shot and killed Arlene and James Nickell in the McKenzie Branch community of Flatgap.

A witness told police they saw Nickell leave in a black Toyota Camry.

That Camry was found at an apartment on Mill Street in Paintsville.

In the apartment, Lindsey and Patricia Vanhoose were found dead inside along with Nickell who had a self inflicted gunshot wound.

On his Facebook page, Sheriff Price called the murders “One of the most disturbing acts of violence I have ever seen.”
