LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Muhammad Ali Center is being honored by the FBI.
The FBI in Louisville says Donald E. Lassere is the recipient of the 2017 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award.
The Director’s Community Leadership Award was created in 1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts on combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in America.
Recipients of the award are nominated by each of the FBI’s 56 field offices and recognized for their service above and beyond the call of duty to help keep America and its residents safe.
According to the FBI, Lassere is being recognized for leading the Ali Center’s mission of building and expanding its educational programs, partnerships, and outreach initiatives – specifically, focusing on youth education, global citizenship, and gender equality.
Lassere spearheaded the Ali Center’s new Generation Ali program, where the Ali Center is working to inspire young adults with Muhammad Ali’s life and works.
Generation Ali encourages young people to find their personal greatness through the service of others empowering young minds to become leaders on various social justice issues.
Lassere will join other recipients of the 2017 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. this spring, where he will be personally recognized and honored by FBI Director Christopher Wray.
