DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky will soon have another distillery in Danville.
This distillery will not have bourbon, the Kentucky staple. This distillery is focused on bringing the flavors of another country to Kentucky.
Ambrabev, standing for American-Brazilian beverage, will import and re-distill the national spirit of Brazil, cachaça.
“Cachaça is to Brazil what tequila is to Mexico, or what bourbon is to America, or as you and I know, to Kentucky.”
CEO Zachary Baeker wants to bring cachaça to the states because his sister taught english in Brazil and ended up marrying someone she met there.
Baeker spent time in the country when his sister got married, and instantly fell in love with it.
He wants others to experience Brazil like he did, explaining their well-known and loved drinks.
“Brazil is obviously vibrant, very colorful, very sort of forward thinking, and exciting and happy and fun and all of those things are in some form or fashion are embodied in Brazilian spirits.”
Though the distillery doesn’t look like much right now since it’s still under construction, Baeker says they hope to be operational working on distilling processes in the next six to eight weeks.
The distillery plans to be open to the public in May or June of this year.
