OWENSBORO, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a man tried to hit an Owensboro police officer with a van on Thursday morning.
State Police say at around 9:15 a.m., they were called to assist the Owensboro Police Department.
They say Owensboro Police Officer Jennifer Haynes tried to stop a vehicle suspected in crimes in Owensboro and Reo Indiana area.
The driver tried to take off but crashed into another vehicle in the 2000 block of Old Henderson Road, according to police.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Edward A. Warriner, of Hawesville, then got out of the car and ran behind ACME Heating and Air building.
Haynes got out of her car and ran after Warriner, according to police.
They say Warriner was able to get into an ACME company van and drove it at Haynes as he attempted to get away.
Haynes shot at Warriner twice, trying to stop him from running over her, according to police.
She was able to move out of his way as he drove out of the loading area.
Police say they believe bullets did hit the van, but did not hit Warriner.
Haynes was not injured.
Warriner was caught a short time later by Owensboro Police Officers.
