LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington doctor is accused of showing up for surgery intoxicated then taking off when he was confronted.
According to Ruth Ann Childers, spokesperson for Baptist Health Lexington, the hospital was alerted Monday afternoon that a physician, Dr. Theodore Gerstle, was possibly intoxicated and showed up to perform surgery.
Childers says the chief medical officer spoke to Dr. Gerstle, who decided to leave the hospital.
The hospital then called police.
Gerstle was arrested a short time later.
He was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center on a charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place.
Dr. Gerstle is a plastic surgeon with Lexington Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Childers says Dr. Gerstle’s privileges at Baptist Health Lexington have been suspended and the hospital is investigating.
