VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – What do you want for Christmas? If you or your kids have been begging for a pet, you’re in luck.
You can get one for free at the Woodford Humane Society through the end of the year.
Animals at the shelter are waiting to find their forever homes. Until December 31, you can adopt them for free.
“If you walk back in the kennel right now, there are a lot of empty spaces and that is fantastic,” said Beth Olson.
Every adoption has been sponsored by Quantrell Subaru.
“We can’t even put into words how exciting these last couple weeks of the year are with this adoption drive,” said Olson.
Along with your new best friend, Quantrell Subaru has paid for spay and neutering, vaccines, a bag of food and a microchip with lifetime registration. Plus, your pet’s first visit to the vet will be free.
“They’re ready to go when they leave, and of course all the dogs leave with a collar and a leash to get them home safely,” said Olson.
While the adoption drive means a free pet for families, for the animals at the humane society, it means so much more.
“We get to see so many animals go to wonderful homes this time of year, and it’s not just about the animals going home,” said Olson. “It’s also about the animals that need the spaces and resources to be available for them to come to us.”
In 2016, 130 animals were adopted during the two-week drive. The humane society is hoping for a similar number this year.
“This program has made it possible for us to help more animals in a short time frame than we would normally be able to so that’s even more lives touched by this adoption drive,” said Olson.
