LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – There were some anxious moments and a business evacuation Wednesday night at a gas station in Lexington following a bomb scare, according to Lexington Police.
Investigators say someone threw a smoke detector into the dumpster at the Speedway at the corner of Liberty Road and Old Todds Road.
While taking out some trash around 8:20 p.m., a gas station clerk heard a beeping noise in the dumpster, didn’t know what it was and was concerned it could have been a bomb.
The Lexington Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the scene. The gas station was evacuated as a precaution and a stretch of Liberty Road was temporarily closed to traffic.
A robot was used and a bomb technician found the smoke detector and quickly determined there was no safety threat. The business was allowed to reopen along with Liberty Road. No one was hurt.
