LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The girl’s basketball team at Tates Creek Middle School in Lexington raised money for a child diagnosed with cancer.
The team raised $500 for 2-year-old Mason Phillips and his family.
Mason has a rare form of liver cancer. His mom says he has had six rounds of chemotherapy, will start his seventh this week and recently had a liver transplant.
Basketball Coach Kendra Schadler says the fundraiser helps teach her team the importance of helping its community.
“They have been out selling t-shirts, carrying t-shirts by their front door, talking with all their classmates trying to do what they can to raise money and also understanding the importance of giving back to their community,” said Schadler.
Mason’s family says the money will help cover part of the medical costs.
