FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – As expected, children went trick or treating on Halloween. But, that means some hidden dangers.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department was working hard tonight to make sure everyone stayed safe.
Sheriff’s deputies were out in full force, passing out candy.
They wanted to make sure kids had the best Halloween possible, and to do so, they did safety checks of kids’ candy collections at the courthouse.
Children poured their candy into a bucket that deputies pushed through an x-ray machine.
They were looking for anything in the candy that wasn’t supposed to be there.
The scanner picks up needles, razor blades, and any other metal objects.
Sheriff Pat Melton says his department will always do whatever they can to make sure everyone stays safe, while still having fun.
“At the end of the day, if everybody goes out tonight, they get bags and bags of candy, they get that sugar rush all night and they go home safe and have a good time, it’s all good,” said Sheriff Melton.
